This IS How I Really Like To Party

Last week I was invited down to Tunica to Grand Casino to check out the new stage version of the game show The Price is Right. It just happened to be the week that Bob Barker, beloved host of the television show, was stepping down after 35 years. I hadn't been to the casinos in a few years but thought, "What the hell?"

I dragged a couple of good natured friends down to Mississip with me and promised them that if nothing else, we could probably score a few drinks!

We quizzed each other on the price of soup and powdered milk as we traveled over the border into gambling country, we were sure that at least one of us would end up on stage and win a car...

Anyway, I expected it to be really cheesy, and it was, but it was still a lot of fun. Maybe I just have a dirty mind but I almost fell out of my chair when the host (David Ruprecht of Supermarket Sweep fame) asked how much a row of ladies would bid for "a lovely new pearl necklace!" or when he kept telling this one lady how close to "the hole" she was while playing 'Hole in Two."

The most fun, of course, was watching the excerpts of the old The Price is Right TV show. I grew up watching that show and the clips were HILARIOUS.

They called down new contestants for every aspect of the show, rather than give people several chances to bid their way on to the stage, which was kind of cool since after every game you got the excitement of possibly going up on stage.

My only complaint wold be that until the final Showcase Showdown, the prizes were a little lame - but the final guy won a car, a big screen television, and a trip to Vegas!!! Not too shabby.

This guy won...

If you're already headed down to the casino, I can suggest this as a really fun distraction.
