Weird SXSW Announcement
Since nobody reads this thing anymore, I am going to start using names again. That was another annoying thing that made me not want to write, when I spent an hour telling a hilarious story only to receive an email from someone begging me to take it down because I used their name. Well, people, that's lame - so get over it. I'm not gonna talk about anybody's incriminating activities - so don't worry about it.
So anyway, I am throwing a party at SXSW on Sunday. It's a showcase, closing party at Flamingo Cantina on 6th Street. Here are the bands:
Snowglobe
Giant Bear
Jamie Randolph and the Bloodsuckers
Antenna Shoes
Jump Back Jake
Holly Cole and Blair Combest.
Now I need to raise a couple of thousand dollars to make this party happen - to get us there, rent the venue and PA and promote the show - I won't really make anything from the show - but I am hoping by doing the party two things will happen.
1. Some really talented musicians will get a chance to be recognized.
2. Memphis will set up a yearly presence other than the garage/post-garage/goner/contaminated scene - which is all great stuff, but these bands are great too.
So, if you are reading this and have ever wanted to contribute something - now is the time. Hit the PAYPAL and help a sistah out - If it's a significant amount we'll even put you on the flyer as a sponsor. Purty please?
In the past couple of days I've wondered how I got myself into this huge project that I am not sure if I can pull off or not, and the funny thng is, I can tell you exactly why. So here it is...
I've been blogging for a long time. I'm an old schooler. In terms of music blogs, when I started, there weren't more than 5 or 6 that anyone was really aware of. I've mentored and befriended many, many bloggers over the past few years. I've given advice, given links, helped them figure out how and where to set up shop, and mainly just corresponded with them cause they liked what I was doing. This happened with a lot of really, really popular bloggers that are out there today, in all different genres from personal, celebrity, and music blogging, from local to national. I was the big dog in the game for quite a while. But just as in almost anything new, there are the people who start things and then there are poeple that come along, innovate, take what was new, swirl it around and ride the wave of popularity to fame and fortune. That's just the way it is, I've discussed it with many people and I ain't hurt. That a lot of blogs that started as my fans have gone on to become super huge is fine with me, to tell you the truth, by the time music blogs got super huge last year, I was running out of steam and people could tell. Oh, I would get reinvogorated now and again, but I knew that I was still on the scene because I was old school and the token girl - which was fine by me...
So, when I was in LA last Novemeber with Chris from Gorilla Vs. Bear, Justin from Aquarium Drunkard, and Craig from My Old Kentucky Blog - I kind of understood why they didn't even glance my way as they sat talking about the SXSW party they should do. I mean sure, I've done special favors for each of them, but they don't think that I can really bring anything to the table - so they didn't ask me to be a part of their party.
The point being is I really like and respect those guys, but being totally left out, and while I was sitting right there, well, it hurt my feelings! And when my feelings get hurt, I don't cower in the corner, I take action. I throw my own goddamn SXSW party!
So, anyway, I'm looking for sponsors. Can you please help?
EDITOR'S NOTE: Well, it seems people do still read this site. Let me clarify. Again - I am not mad at those guys, nor was I curled in the fetal position worrying why they don't like me - I just was like, "Yo, I'm standing right here!" But I know I'm not in the big leagues and can not generate the turnout those guys can. They are all great guys that I consider my friends -I am just being honest about how I felt in the moment which may or may not have been justified. I'm a girl, I could have just been on my period!
Here's their party - Everyone should totally go!

That's right! Gorilla vs Bear, Chromewaves, Largehearted Boy, My Old KY Blog, Rock Insider and You Ain't No Picasso are all teaming up to throw the best party at SXSW this year!
