Lately, I have been reading
Lately, I have been reading alot of this blog, Baghdad's Burning. If you have any interest in the conflict over our occupation of Iraq, you should be too. It is written by a 24 year old Iraqi woman who was brought up abroad and then returned to Iraq in her teens. She speaks fluent english and was a computer engineer before the war began. After the fighting was "declared" over, she was not allowed to return to her job because she was a woman and now must be escorted if she leaves her home by two male "bodyguards" for her own safety. You see, the "liberation" of Iraq has been anything but liberating for women. Most have had to quit going to school, lost their jobs and have had to resort to wearing hijabs so they are not accosted by the fundamentalists who feel that this is the perfect time for their own revolution. I could go on, but it would be better if you turned off the tv and read what's really going on in Baghdad for yourself.
